Destiny #6 – The feud

Luke slowly stirred his eyes open. “Ay-Ayden, come here, I think I’m sick” he whispered. Apparently, Ayden was using his handphone to see his teammate’s chats. Ayden quickly stood up and knew that there is something wrong with Luke.

“What do you need Luke? Do you want to play the match? Well no. You had promised me yesterday that you will not play the match.” said Ayden firmly.

“Ugh, I don’t feel so good. My head is pounding and my stomach is turning,” said Luke weakly. “How come you still think that I will play in the match today?” Luke becomes a bit angry.

“Oh, you are really sick? I thought you only joke with me because I’m sure you will not want to miss this match.” Ayden replied with a sarcastic voice.

“If you don’t trust me, just stare at me. I’m probably pale, and I’m shivering right now.” Luke said.

Ayden added, “Your teammates must be angry at you for missing the game, right?” his voice full of concern.

“Well, they’re chill Ayden. They’ll understand,” Luke replied, forming a weak smile on his mouth. “I’ll just have to make it up to them in the next game. In the meantime, I need to focus on getting better and getting back on the field as soon as possible.”

“By the way, last night I order a new glasses from my doctor. If there’s someone knocking on the door, it may be the delivery guy.” said Luke, before he fell back into sleep.

As the days passed, Luke’s health slowly improved and he began to feel stronger.

“Ayo Ayden, wanna come with me? I gotta go to the team base.” Luke said as he wears his leather jacket.

“Yeah man, I’ll change my clothes and we’re good to go,” Ayden replied. Then they drove to the team base.

When they arrived at the team base, Coach John was waiting for them, and he was furious.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” John yelled. “You missed the last game and now you’re coming as if nothing happened. Do you have any idea how much damage you’ve caused?”

“I-I’m sorry coach. I don’t feel well enough to play in the match. But now I can assure you that I’m healthy and ready to be trained again.”

“Luke, it’s a childish excuse,” said John. “You need to focus on the game, not on some adopted kid!” John throws up all of his anger, staring at Ayden. Ayden was scared, and he run away from the scene.

“It’s my choice to adopt Ayden. Also, he’s not the one who make me didn’t come on my last match.” Luke tried to explain the situation.

“I don’t care. You’re wasting time on a kid who isn’t your family, and look, he cried now. It’s all your fault” John answered, pointing at Ayden who cried behind Luke’s car.

This made Luke angrier than he had ever been before. He rolled up his sleeves, his fists clenched, and he began to fight. He can’t hold his emotion to John mouth, who is constantly trash-talking him.

Luke thought that because John is old (because his hair had already gone and there were marks everywhere around his face) he was weak. But little did he know that John is a former football player and also a boxer.

As it turned out, his reflexes were quick. He easily dodged Luke’s attack and landed a swift punch to Luke’s face, sending him crashing to the ground.

At the end of the confrontation, Luke was no match for Coach John and his anger. His arms and legs were bruised and his new glasses were broken, and he knew that he had lost the battle.

Luke stood up, and ran towards Ayden. “Come on,” he said, his voice firm. “Let’s go. We don’t need this place or these people. We have each other, and that’s all that matters.”

“B-but dad, how about your team? Your teammates need you,” said Ayden, trying to let his anger cool down. Luke insisted, and they left the base.

As Luke drove home, he was still angry and upset about the confrontation with Coach John. He drove recklessly, ignoring Ayden’s pleas to slow down and pay attention to the road. Ayden was terrified, feeling like he was in the car with a devil-possessed Luke.

“Luke, please stop. We’re gonna die if you drive like this!” screams Ayden to Luke. Luke didn’t seem to listen to him, because his mind is still full of the feud he had with John.

The car is driving at a dangerously high speed; 140 km/h. The tire constantly screeches, as Luke manoeuvres the steering wheel aggressively.

Finally, Ayden couldn’t take it anymore. He knew that he had to do something to stop Luke before it was too late. So, he reached out and grabbed the steering wheel, yanking it to the side and pressing the brake with his feet. He also changed the gear to 1 immediately, causing the airbag to come out.

Luke was shocked by Ayden’s sudden action, and he froze in place as he realized that he had almost hit an old lady who was crossing the street. Ayden grabbed Luke’s big body pulling him to the side, and he swapped positions with Luke.

“C’mon Luke, change our position. You’ve almost hit an old lady you know? Let’s find help, there are police right there.” Ayden points at a police station.

The police drive them home. Luke remained frozen and speechless, still in shock from the near accident.

When they finally arrived home, Ayden parked the car and turned to Luke. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice filled with concern. But Luke still didn’t speak, and he remained frozen in place.

“Luke, it’s okay. You don’t need to do anything.” said Ayden, and continued to shake Luke’s shoulder, trying to get him to snap out of his trance. He was worried about his father, and he knew that he had to do something to help him.

As Ayden spoke, he could see a flicker of recognition in Luke’s eyes, and he knew that he was getting through to him. He continued to talk to him, reminding him of all the good times they had shared and the bond of brotherhood that they shared.

Slowly but surely, Luke began to come back to himself, and he wrapped his arms around Ayden in a hug. “I’m sorry,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I didn’t mean to put you in danger or make you feel scared. I just let my anger get the best of me, and I’m sorry for that.”

As soon as Luke realized that Ayden had been driving the car, he freaked out. He couldn’t believe that the 14-year-old boy had been behind the wheel, and he was filled with worry and guilt for not paying attention to the road and putting Ayden in danger.

“Oh my god, Ayden,” he exclaimed, his voice shaking with emotion. “I can’t believe you were driving. You’re only 15 years old! You’re not even old enough to get a driver’s license!”

Ayden looked at Luke, his expression calm and reassuring. “No Luke, it’s the police who drive us here,” he said, patting his dad’s shoulders.

Then, Ayden led Luke to the bathroom and helped him wash his bruised arms. As he tended to his wounds, he whispered soothing words of comfort, telling him to breathe slowly and let his stress go.

As he worked, Luke suddenly spoke up, his voice choked with emotion. “You know what, Ayden? I feel like you’re like my mother. She used to take care of me when I was little and make sure I was safe and happy. And you do the same thing for me now. You’re the best companion a guy could ask for.”

Ayden was touched by Luke’s words, and he felt a surge of love and pride for his father. He knew that Luke had been through a lot in his life, and he was grateful to be able to support and care for him in any way he could.

As Ayden finished cleaning Luke’s wounds, he pulled him into a hug and held him tightly, letting him cry and let out all of his emotions.

You guys must’ve asked; how does Ayden always behave like an angel. In the next story, we will see Ayden’s life background. How does Luke cope with the sadness of ‘not being able to play football again’?
