A friendship #2 – Hard work that pays off

As Kevin watched Jack struggle to make ends meet, he knew that he wanted to help in any way he could. So, he decided to start working odd-jobs for their neighbors. He would mow their lawns, wash their cars, and do other tasks for a little bit of money.

At first, Kevin was careful to keep his job a secret from Jack. He didn’t want Jack to feel like he was taking advantage of his kindness or trying to steal his thunder.

But one day, while Kevin was mowing the lawn for their neighbor, Mrs. Thompson, the lawnmower broke and drove over his shoes, ripping them to shreds. Kevin was devastated and didn’t know what to do.

Just then, Jack came home from work and saw Kevin standing there, his shoes in tatters. “Hey, Kevin, what happened?” Jack asked, sounding concerned.

“I… I was mowing Mrs. Thompson’s lawn,” Kevin said, his voice shaking. “But the lawnmower broke and it drove over my shoes.”

Jack was shocked and angry. “You’ve been working for Mrs. Thompson?” he asked, his voice rising. “Why didn’t you tell me? I could have helped you with the work and shared the money with you.”

“I’m sorry, Jack,” Kevin said, feeling guilty. “I didn’t want to take any of your money or burden you with more work. I just wanted to help out and earn some extra cash.”

Jack sighed and shook his head. “Kevin, you’re my friend,” he said. “We’re in this together. You don’t have to do everything on your own. We can help each other and share the workload.”

Kevin nodded, understanding what Jack was saying. He realized that he had been wrong to keep his job a secret from Jack, and he promised to be more open and honest with him in the future.

As Kevin and Jack struggled to make ends meet, they found it increasingly difficult to keep up with their school work. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to pay their bills and afford the necessities of life.

One day, they received a notice from the school stating that they were in danger of being dropped from their classes due to non-payment of fees. Kevin and Jack knew that they had no choice but to drop out of school and focus on finding jobs to support themselves.

At first, Kevin was devastated by the news. He had always dreamed of going to college and making something of himself, but now that dream seemed out of reach.

But Jack, ever the optimist, saw it as an opportunity. “Hey, don’t be sad, Kevin,” he said, trying to cheer his friend up. “Now that we’re not in school, we can work full-time and make more money. We can finally afford to live comfortably and take care of ourselves.”

Kevin was skeptical, but he knew that Jack was right. If they wanted to survive, they had to focus on making money and supporting each other. So, they put their heads together and came up with a plan.

Jack would take on a full-time job, while Kevin would continue working odd-jobs for their neighbors. They would save up their money and use it to pay their bills and buy the things they needed. It wouldn’t be easy, but they were determined to make it work.

For the next few months, Kevin and Jack worked hard to earn money and support each other. They sacrificed their free time and their social lives, but they knew that it was worth it to have a roof over their heads and food on the table.

After 3 months of hard work, Jack manager approached him with a surprise. “Hey, Jack,” the manager said. “I’ve been impressed with your work and your attitude. So, I wanted to give you this as a gift.”

The manager handed Jack a guitar, and Jack’s eyes lit up with excitement. He had always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, but he never had the means to buy one.

“Wow, thank you so much, sir!” Jack said, grinning from ear to ear. “I don’t know what to say. This is amazing.”

“You’re welcome, Jack,” the manager said, smiling. “I hope you enjoy it and make some beautiful music. You deserve it.”

Jack couldn’t wait to show Kevin the guitar and start learning how to play it. So, he quickly finished up his work and headed home.

As Jack was walking home, he ran into a group of bullies who had been harassing him and Kevin for a long time. The bullies saw the guitar in Jack’s hands and immediately began to mock and taunt him.

“Hey, look at the poor homeless kid with the guitar,” one of the bullies sneered. “He thinks he’s a rockstar or something. Let’s show him what a real rockstar looks like.”

The bullies surrounded Jack and began to beat him up, taking turns punching and kicking him. Jack tried to fight back, but he was no match for the group of bullies. He was barely able to make it home, his face bruised and his body battered.

When Kevin saw Jack, he was shocked and scared. He had never seen his friend in such bad shape before. He immediately called for help and tried to comfort Jack, but he was too overwhelmed by the situation. Suddenly, Kevin passed out, unable to handle the stress and shock.

When Kevin woke up, he was in a hospital bed, surrounded by doctors and nurses. They told him that he had fainted due to stress and that he was going to be okay.

Kevin asked about Jack, and the doctors told him that Jack was also in the hospital, being treated for his injuries. Kevin was relieved to hear that his friend was okay, but he was also worried about the bullies and what they might do next.

As soon as Jack was well enough, the doctors allowed Kevin to visit him in his hospital room. When Kevin saw Jack, he was shocked by the extent of his injuries. Jack’s face was covered in bruises and cuts, and his body was sore and swollen.

“Jack, I’m so sorry,” Kevin said, tears streaming down his face. “This is all my fault. If I hadn’t passed out, I could have helped you and stopped those bullies from hurting you.”

Jack shook his head and gave Kevin a weak smile. “Don’t be sorry, Kevin,” he said. “This isn’t your fault. It’s the bullies who are to blame. And we’re not going to let them win. We’re going to get better, and we’re going to make them pay for what they did to us.”

Kevin nodded, determination filling his heart. He knew that Jack was right, and he was ready to do whatever it took to make the bullies pay. With Jack by his side, he knew that they could face anything and come out victorious.

They were surprised to find that the guitar that Jack had received from his manager was miraculously unharmed. The doctors had found it in Jack’s backpack and had taken good care of it.

When they were well enough to leave the hospital, Jack and Kevin decided to start learning how to play the guitar. Kevin, who had always been fascinated by music, was eager to learn and explore his passion.

To help him learn, Kevin would go to the library and search for guitar tutorials on the library computers. He would sit close to the monitor, squinting to see the lessons. He would take notes and then go home to practice what he had learned.

Kevin began to dream about performing in the public. Will he able to fullfill his wish?
